Our Story

Hi I’m Shelley Clarke,

Embodied Therapies was created as a space for me to share my passions with the world. It’s a space for ongoing learning and continued self discovery.

I graduated with a Bachelor Degree of Physiotherapy in 2004 from the University of South Australia. The past 15 years I have gained experience in many different areas including, private practice, sports physiotherapy, women’s health and paediatrics. I spent 18 months working in Canada gaining valuable experience in a busy practice (and learning how to snowboard!). When I returned, I followed my desire to work with children and spent several years at the Women’s and Children’s hospital in Adelaide.

It wasn’t until after my son was born that I discovered CranioSacral Therapy (CST). I saw first hand the amazing benefits just a few session were for him and I was hooked. I started training in CST in 2014 with the Upledger Institute and became a techniques level certified therapist in 2016. The past 5 years I have been working, part time, in a specialised CST clinic and continuing further education in this field. I am truly thankful to be a student of this wonderful modality.

What about the parenting?

My husband, Matt, and I have three gorgeous children 7, 4 and a 1 year old. A few years into our parenting journey I was looking for some help with common parenting struggles (read: sleep and aggressive behaviour) and came across Hand in Hand Parenting By Connection and Aware Parenting. The knowledge and tools I have learnt through these frameworks have completely changed our family life. These philosophies, along with my knowledge of the nervous system, anatomy, trauma and healing have enabled a deeper sense of connection and joy in our family.

Through seeing the wonderful changes in myself and my children it ignited a passion for supporting others in their parenting journey.

These days I balance being a mum with 1:1 physio and CST consultations, as well as run mums and bubs classes and small parenting workshops in the wider Adelaide community.
